The WriteSteps Commitment
to Teacher Support
We believe that a well-supported teacher is more likely to develop new practices and sustain them over time. That's why we have made professional development a top priority with supportive, non-judgmental coaching that is tailored to meet the needs of each school.
What happens during coaching?
The WriteSteps coach meets with teachers in grade-level groups for one hour or more during the school day. Roving substitute teachers, para-professionals, or Title I teachers cover classes during these grade-level meetings.
The WriteSteps coach leads teachers in activities that translate to immediate classroom results. Examples include:
- Joint scoring of student writing
- Responding to questions about current units
- Helping the group address challenges with scheduling or teaching
- Non-evaluative observation & feedback on teaching
- Modeling of one-on-one conferencing with challenging students
- Setting goals for next steps
How many days?
- 3 professional development days scheduled during the following months:
PD Day 1: October or November
PD Day 2: January or February
PD Day 3: March or April
- 5 professional development days scheduled during the following months:
PD Day 1: Late September
PD Day 2: November
PD Day 3: Late January
PD Day 4: March
PD Day 5: April
- 9 professional development days, once a month, September through May
If you have different needs, we can customize a professional development plan just for you.
What does it cost?
One day of coaching is $1,695. We offer discounts when coaching is contracted on a district-wide basis.
